About the National STD Curriculum 2nd Edition Update
As a National STD Curriculum registered learner, we want to alert you to the recent release of CDC’s Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines, 2021 and our plans to roll out the National STD Curriculum 2nd Edition, which will start a new 3-year CE accreditation period. We are in the process of reviewing and updating all National STD Curriculum content to align with the new 2021 guidelines.
Over the coming months, updated 2nd Edition content will launch for chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes simplex virus-genital, human papillomavirus infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, syphilis, and vaginitis), as well as 17 updated Question Bank topics. New Question Bank topics will also be added.
Please read the following changes in how to obtain and track free CE credits and Certificates of Completion (CoC):
- As you complete new units, your progress tracker will refer to these CE credits or CoC as "2nd Edition." You can obtain new 2nd Edition CE credit and CoC, even if you previously obtained 1st Edition credit or CoC. As always, all CE credits and CoC are free.
- If you want to receive 1st Edition CE credit or CoC, please complete any in-progress modules or question bank topics. Any unfinished work (for which you have not already obtained and printed CE credit or CoC) will disappear when a 1st Edition module or question bank topic is replaced by the 2nd Edition version.
- Your progress tracker page will display two reports. The top one will display ongoing 2nd Edition work and the bottom one will show previously completed work on the 1st Edition. We apologize for the complexity of having two progress trackers, but this was necessary to show your cumulative work.
- CoC Requirement Changes. Individuals who do not need CE credit can obtain CoC. To earn free 2nd Edition CoC, you will be required to correctly answer 80% of the questions on a lesson’s quiz or a question bank topic, and complete a brief survey. As before, you may retake a lesson quiz or repeat a question bank topic if you did not pass on a prior attempt. This change aligns the CoC process to what learners must complete to receive free CE.
- New CME + MOC Opportunity. If you are an American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) board certified physician, visit the National STD Curriculum 2nd Edition’s “CME + MOC” page to learn how to concurrently earn free CME credit and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points.
Respectfully,
