A 26-year-old woman who has sex with men presents to her primary care provider for an annual physical examination. She is currently monogamous with a male partner; they both tested negative for HIV approximately 6 months prior. She is not pregnant. She does not have any symptoms currently of vaginal pain, itching, or discharge. As part of the routine evaluation, screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is advised and she agrees.
