A 52-year-old cisgender woman with poorly controlled insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus presents with a 1-week history of vulvar burning after urination and constant vaginal pruritus. She denies fevers, chills, or pelvic pain. She states she has had one other prior episode of similar symptoms about 18 months ago that resolved with treatment. A diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis is suspected.
